Two European luxury brands are tiptoeing into car sharing, a radical move for carmakers whose business for the past 100 years has been selling to individuals. German archrivals Daimler AG and BMW AG have launched sharing programs. An extraordinary 30-mile convoy of Subarus smashed into the record books this weekend – all in honour of rally ace Colin McRae, who died in September 2007. An estimated 1100 Subarus drove from his home town of Lanark in Scotland to Prodrive's HQ in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Colin's dad, Jimmy McRae led the Scooby convoy on its nine-hour and 300-mile pilgrimage.
U.S. regulators are investigating 10 recent cases in which owners of recalled Toyota vehicles say they brought their cars in for repair and yet still experienced unintended acceleration. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has started contacting consumers about these complaints “to make sure Toyota is doing everything possible to make its vehicles safe,” agency chief David Strickland said in an e-mailed statement.
